Hydrofarm is born
Marin County, CA
During the drought of 1977–78, founder Stuart Dvorin developed water-saving hydroponics that gained traction among gardeners to put Hydrofarm on the map.
Hydrofarm grows beyond its roots
With 65 employees, Hydrofarm moved its corporate headquarters to Petaluma, CA, in the heart of Sonoma County—a truly inspiring location with a rich horticultural history.

Major expansion
Our staff of “Hydrofarmers” more than doubled to 150+ employees, and our offices grew to 150,000 square feet.
A new leader in growth
Bill Toler joined as CEO, bringing 30+ years of senior executive experience at major consumer packaged goods companies, including seven years as CEO and president of Hostess Brands.

A Wall Street welcome
Hydrofarm (HYFM) becomes a publicly traded company and exceeds its IPO pricing expectations.
Growing our house brands
Hydrofarm launched Phantom PHOTOBIO™-TX and PHOTOBIO™-T Greenhouse and Indoor Grow Lights. We also added Canada’s Greenstar Plant products, Aurora Innovations, and House & Garden, Inc., to our impressive and growing brand portfolio.
